[SATLUG] Cardbus modem in kernel 2.6.5

I'm away on business and have no Internet access other than my little Treo600 pda/phone.  Can't seem to locate the kernel options for a cardbus modem...or any modem for that matter.  I admit, it's been years since I've used a modem in Linux, and even then I was using distros that had it enabled in the default kernel.  Please advise :) I would sure appreciate it.  Thanks.
