Yeah, there are some on the Gentoo forums who play up the ability to
tweak the compiler optimizations ("d00DZ! mY c0mP1ler fL4Gs R @ -O48.
pH3Ar Me!") but I figure any speed increases you might get after
optimization are negated by the time spend compiling. While the ability
to do that stuff is nice, it was the ease of package management and
system maintenance that really drew me in. The documentation is
continually getting better, too.
