The Central Texas Chapter of the IEEE Communications/Signal Processing
Society invites you to attend our July meeting and a presentation by
Jeremy Chappell, (Network Consultant), Mangrove Systems.

   DATE July 15, 2004 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
LOCATION: SBC Laboratories, Inc. (SBC Labs)
             9505 Arboretum Blvd, Austin, TX

   TOPIC: MetroMPLS(TM)

   SPEAKER: Jeremy Chappell, Mangrove Systems

BIO: Jeremy Chappell (Network Consultant), Mangrove Systems

Founded in 2002, Mangrove Systems is developing a family of innovative
MetroMPLS(TM) access and switching platforms that bridge the divide
between today's TDM-based access and metro networks, and the rapidly
evolving MPLS core. MetroMPLS is the industry's first solution to enable
end-to-end MPLS networking. Mangrove Systems is based in Wallingford, CT.

Mr.. Chappell has been actively involved with Mangrove's entry into North
American and international markets for the past 18 months, where his roles
include field marketing and product planning. Prior to Mangrove, Mr..
Chappell acquired over 15 years of global telecommunications experience,
primarily in the design and deployment of MPLS, IP, ATM, and Frame Relay
systems. He held leadership roles in field marketing and system
engineering functions at Net Core Systems and Cascade Communications, and
was also a co-founder of Essient Photonics, a UK-based supplier of optical
subsystems. Mr.. Chappell started his career in telecommunications as a
software engineer on X.25 subsystems for BT's System-X. He is an active
member of the IEEE ComSoc and LEOS societies, and of the Optical Society
of America. Mr.. Chappell holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics &
Computer Science from Bath University (UK), and an MBA from the University
   of Texas at Dallas.

Abstract: MetroMPLS(TM), presented by Jeremy Chappell, Mangrove Systems.

There are significant issues in supporting a combination of circuit and
packet-based access traffic, and in migrating traffic to a converged MPLS
infrastructure. These are compounded by the economic realities of today's
networking environment, and by the challenges of implementing services
such as VOIP and Ethernet, which present trade-offs between cost and
   service quality.

Jeremy will describe how Mangrove combines circuit grooming and packet
switching to extend efficient service architectures across the Metro and
into the access network. He will discuss Mangrove's implementation of GFP,
VCAT and LCAS, and will address the use of Pseudo-Wires to maximize
compatibility with installed transport elements, including MSPPs, ADMs and
digital cross connects. He will contrast the relative merits of several
control-plane options, and will describe service interworking issues and
solutions. Jeremy will also discuss Mangrove's options for OAM, and for
   traffic management.

RSVP: The presentation is open to chapter members and non-members. Free
food and beverages will be served to attendees. If you plan to attend,
please send e-mail to Howard Headrick at hfrjr at swbell.net for planning
   purposes.
