Well Mary, I can tell you two things, mainly because I have both Sprint PCS,
and Verizon Wireless.
Sprint has excellent digital coverage in the since of being inside a metro
area. The datamodem/pccards for laptops are excellent (pricy), I have two
Audiovox Thera 2032 PDA/phone's one each for Sprint/Verizon. Both suppot
dual band connections. And the USB cable for linking is not hard to setup,
if you get the right companion cd. However there is a problem with Sprint's
support for using your phone as your modem to connect to the internet.
About 2 months ago I tried setting up my phone as a modem to connect online
while on the road, and Sprint informed me that they no longer support
internet for computers through the cellular service. To clarify what she
explained was the only way you could browse the internet using a sprint
phone was to use the built in browser, and browse crappy text. Verizon on
the other hand gave me the link to they're support page on configuring the
phone and computer to use the phone as a modem. From this point I stuck
with Verizon.
May have changed since, but, oh well, whats an employee account with sprint
and Verizon for...
If you are referring to while being on the road for 802.11 wifi, then that
is a different solution. I don't war drive daily, but I do drive around
enough with a GPS and my Dell Axim 3, with wifi, and stumble onto a constant
list of access points from people that have secureless Aps. And the list
gets larger every month.

I am thinking of using my cell phone and WiFi for my internet connections
when I am on the road. Want feedback as to how others set theirs up.
I'm using sprint pcs service for my cell phone right now, but am thinking of
switching to Verizon because it would be cheaper according to people I've
spoken with.
WiFi is in its infancy but i've heard from others how surprizing how often
one finds an open WiFi access point. I think this is due to people not
realizing that they need to set up some security when they install a WiFi
access point.
