[SATLUG] Looking for a Linux Flavor that is easy to control

First off I have tried Redhat 9 i think and i never was able to configure it to do what I want so I gave up.

What I am looking for is a Linux that is part file server so that I can store files ad access them from my windows boxes, the seconf part would be for me to be able to let another user from a different location access my server and my network from his location over RoadRunner.  

Does any body have any Ideas on what I can use and for the most part have it be easy to setup.
