Hi Richard,
let me add a few words in reply to your message. As one of the
original founders of SATLUG I feel that your characterization of
SATLUG may be missing the point.
SATLUG has always been an open group, welcoming anyone, incl. M$
afficionados. SATLUG has in my opinion excelled at providing help
and instruction to the San Antonio community, all the while maintaining
independence and offering services and help COMPLETELY free and voluntary.
By not assimilating to other groups and instead by subscribing to this
volunteer spirit, SATLUG has remained consistently successful and has
seen a constantly increasing membership over the years, all without
collecting dues. I think this speaks for itself.
I feel that everyone who has responded to your inquiry has made
valid points and while I can't speak about the Alamo PC group
(I have never dealt with them), I am glad to see SATLUG maintain
its independence and continue in the open volunteer spirit.
Like Jesika mentioned, please make an effort to see if this could
work for you as well, feel free to ask your questions on this most
excellent Linux users forum, and if you like a formal course, please
check with Steve Kolars from SAC, who has along with his colleagues
been an unfailing supporter of Linux and SATLUG, and has offered a
very good Linux course at SAC. Please keep checking this list for
announcements of Linux meetings, workshops and installfests, all of
which could help you learn Linux.
Best regards, -Borries
