[SATLUG] firefox question

In GNOME (at least 2.10, perhaps earlier too), you can just
drag-n-drop off of the "start" menu onto the desktop. Many other
window managers, like IceWM and XFCE, actually do not support icons
on the desktop (although these two are otherwise quite excellent).
