I guess I'd better ask first what transaction set are trying to write to?
Also, now days its better to go from a CSV or flat file to XML and then to
EDI/X12 using a mercator software.
Be aware that there are companies names Mercator Software and companies that
sell mecator software (such as HP) but not all do the same thing.
You need to determine the specific transaction set that you need to write to
and then determine if you want to do a one time bang up batch job or want to
write a transulation table to go along with your conversion so that you can
individually translate one record at a time to the desired transaction set.
Anyone mastering data conversion to X12 and specific EDI transactions such
as WalMart uses can generally get a 6 digit figure salary with East Coast
firms such as EDS, CACI, etc.

Subject: [SATLUG] Create EDI files from CSV?
Hello gang:
This is sort of linux-related, and I know some of you have mainframe
experience so you might be able to help.
I'm wondering if any of you can suggest a tool or software for
exporting our catalog database (csv file) into an EDI file? We need
it to be an ANSI X12 compliant EDI file so we can submit it to the
government for processing. I don't care if the software runs on Linux
or Windows, just need a simple solution for doing the conversions. We
do not at this point need to send purchase orders or invoices via EDI.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks
Sean
