Notification is step one. We need to know how many people want
install help, and if you can make it on Saturday or Sunday, or
both days. (The admission price includes both days.)

Next we need some info about the system, so we have a chance of
advance warning about problems that may occur. What make and
model laptop? How much memory? What size hard drive? How much
free space is available? Do you have a CD or DVD drive?

Third is whether you have a preferred Linux distribution (distro)
and whether you will dual (or triple) boot Linux and other
operating systems. We'll need to have installation media and
someone familiar with that distro. If dual-boot, extra time is
needed to make space available for Linux. You should defragment
the drive first and then immediately shut it down and not restart
until ready to install Linux. Running Windows causes files to be
spread all over the disk, which makes repartitioning take longer.

Last I can think of (probably missed some things) is that there
is no Internet connection at the computer show, so we can't
download additional components or security updates, and we can't
test the connection to your ISP.

Doing an install at one of the SAC Installfests gets around a lot
of these restrictions. The next one is Saturday, September 17,
SAC NTC 104, 9am-??pm. See the SATLUG and SAC CIS websites for
info.
