[SATLUG] linux + laptop + gps (is it being done?)

I have an older, very light/small sony p3 laptop running slack.  I was
wondering if there's any chance of hooking up a gps receiver via
usb/pcmcia card and making it work with some tracking software.

Software doesn't need to be as sophisticated as TomTom or whatever.

Working on a few google searches right now...most apply to updating a
garmin or similar via a linux pc, not actually running/viewing gps
software itself directly on an X desktop.
