hmmm.  i guess i do things the hardway.  i traceroute and ping locally, 
as well as from multiple locations (i have servers in San Antonio, 
Dallas and Austin), looking for lost packets and slow downs.

i also use these public route servers (link below) to ping and 
traceroute (among other things) from networks outside of mine.
