have you tried to add some additional boot options to
the kernel.. i have read somewhere that some laptops
have funny bioses and advanced power management that
can really freak the kernel out... i know i worked on
a compaq 2100 athlon and had to add some additional
parameters here is a page for you to look at
try some of these it worked for me you have to add
them to lilo or hit escape during the grub boot
screen..... hope it helps
