That hdb3 is set up as an ext3 filesystem really shouldn't be a bother.
Check to make sure that samba is running.
Check to make sure that you have not firewalled it by mistake.
Check user permisions on the shared directory.
Try connecting to it from the XP box using it;s IP address, as opposed
to its name.
