| The only
| distro I haven't had that problem with is PCLinuxOS, but the problem with
it
| is its a beginners distro that I've out grown already (it doesn't have any
| man pages). Well I figure if I ask in enough places somebody will have
run
| across this before and know how to fix it.

Bite your tongue. PCLinuxOS is a very well thought out, user friendly
distro which quickly becomes intuitive even to a confirmed Windows
user. I wouldn't use it on anything slower than 1 GHz but one of my
readers says he's very happy with it on his 600 MHz machine.
All of which is beside the point really. Right now Linux development
seems to climbing an exponential curve and everything out there is
a "beginners distro" compared to where it's liable to be in six months
or a year let alone several years. Therein lies what I believe is the
best argument one can make for switching to Linux. The choice is
becoming very clear.
A. This operating system costs more with each successive version and
whichever one you buy gets closer to being obsolete with each passing year.
B. This operating system costs little or nothing, is normally updatable at
no extra cost and gets better with each passing year.
I've noticed that Debian with KDE blacks out the monitor every so often.
I think it happens when the random screensaver utility cycles to a
screensaver that's not installed on the computer, or one that won't run
properly on the system's resources.
