[SATLUG] newby needing help!!

I have loaded virtual pc on my home computer and installed linux on it. I am fairly sure 

  it is the red hat linux-gnu version. Right now I am getting a message in terminal mode 

  that says  "i8253 count to high! resetting". I am also having trouble FTP from the ms-

  dos prompt into my linux program. Am trying to learn my basic commands. The 

  system all this is running on is a pentium d 2.80 gig with 512 meg ram. Any help 

  would be great.
