[SATLUG] OT: Booting off of USB

I have a Compaq E500 laptop.. it has a P3 600mhz proc,
256megs ram, 20gig hd.  It boots into Win 2k.  Now
now..hold on hold on... I know, I have some 'splainin
to do.  I have some software that hooks up to various
sensors and whatnot to my car.. that software runs
under windows.   What I want is a quick(er) way to
boot into Windows.  I dont think I can boot off of USB
because its not a option in the BIOS (boot from
removeable media).  This software works under Wine
supposedly.

Is there a linux alternative I can use?  Maybe some
sort of boot disk that loads up linux from my USB
stick into a GUI environment?  

What about the same scenario except with Windows 2k?
