The service provided by USAA has gone downhill by quite a bit, or so
I'm told by my wife and her family. Back when my father-in-law
worked there, it was such a good place for customers that they had to
be really, really picky about who they let in the front door, and
that's why they served the US Military community. However, since
then, there's been a whole litany of service reductions.

For example, they will no longer do a separate jewelry rider on your
home/renter's insurance. You get a set limit for jewelry on your
insurance, and that's it. If you have more jewelry than that (and
it's not hard to exceed the limits), you're just plain screwed --
there is no additional amount of money you can pay them to get a
separate insurance plan to cover the additional jewelry.

For another, don't ever cancel your insurance with them. If you do,
they will never let you back in the door.

Suffice it to say that none of my in-laws uses USAA anymore for
insurance. Nor do any of their friends.
