As an insurance company and bank.. they're supposed to be top notch.
Literally.. best customer service in the country.

As for as their internal IT group.. I have a lot of friends who have or still
do work there.. But ITCo (if they still call their IT group that) is a
different story that their insurance & bank sides.

While yes.. they are an old IBM/AIX shop.. they also have a good measure of
Solaris, a ton of Windows since the late 90's.. and a growing bit of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux (especially in their web-heads.. which they were forced to
go to after flailing with trying to get Windows/IIS up for a number of years
at various levels of instability). I think their web-shop now consists of an
IBM Websphere front end with a bunch of RedHat EL/Apache web-heads and some
big backend SQL engine (not sure who's).... I have some inside contacts that
I can sniff out to ask about Linux positions.. let me know off list.

USSA's ITCo is big and bureaucratic... Not exactly the most fun place to
work.. but it WILL pay the bills... Just steer clear of the political and
fiefdom battles.
