I was in Iraq at the time of the last presidential election, and I was
not pressured to vote for any specific candidate by any of my
leadership, and my soldiers (3 E-4's) were not pressured by me (except
to vote at all, which one didn't, and I understand his decision).

My roommate and I and several of the guys in my platoon who enjoyed
that sort of thing would have lengthy discussions to kill time, but we
all understood that they were good-natured debates, and that no one
was trying to sway anyone else. These debates ranged from politics to
religion to just about any topic you can think of, and were just a way
of blowing off steam. At no time were my soldiers involved.

I would imagine that the closer that you get to the Pentagon, you
would see a lot more pressure. Proximity to brass tends to increase
the politics of any situation.
