A political discussion at SATLUG?

Apart from the fact that most SA techs are conservative or
libertarians....it's not a great place for diverse political opining...

However.... my .02

 It doesn't take a genius to see that there's been coercing at the TOP of
the military...I doubt it takes place elsewhere...
But starting with Powell.
I still can't get over the fact that
... three weeks before the Iraq invasion... he said that it wasn't
necessary... then BLAMMO-- his pathetic forced testimony in front of the UN.

What's his excuse?
Following orders... I don't think so...if he KNEW in his heart,  there was
no WMDs and he lied....then he's a war criminal.

If he didn't know.. then he's a fool... and I don't believe that.. here's a
man that has seen  "real" intelligence and I'm sure that he could tell that
what was being put out as intelligence by the administration was simply
bullshit... It was obvious to people who weren't ready to drink the kool
aid.

As it was to ANYONE who has followed the real reason why we kept Saddam in
power in the 80s... to keep Iran at bay.. to weaken them...as a buffer zone
between Shia domination and Sunni moderation (I ain't talking Baathist
Sunnis... but Saudi, Jordan, and Egypt)... that's not 20/20 hindsight
kids... go back and READ papers from the 80s


He KNEW all that... and more..
so.. was he forced by the adminstration to change his tune...
ya betcha'

Is his mortal soul in peril for that betrayal of EVERYTHING he'd ever stood
for , of his OWN doctrine ... probably.

His weakness in not standing up to President Bush did nothing but weaken
this country.

Just imagine.. if we hadn't looked like such idiots in the running of this
war...we probably could go in and bomb the Taliban in the borders of
Pakistan and no one would blink..
but since we now look like incompetent fools..at best... and liars at
worst... the world looks at us suspiciously.
