Situation Solved!

Wow....

Taking Mr.Benders advise I go back over there and try to run memtest off the
knoppix cd.  When I got there the PC was off and I couldn't get it back up.
Found out it was the wall jack that was on the blink, not the PC.  We went
back to the circuit breaker and first started hearing what sounded like
sizzling bacon and when we opened it up it was loaded with dead crickets.

They never completely tripped the circuit but when the electricians got here
they replaced it anyway.
