Depending on why you want to startx or startkde in the first place,
there's no substitute for knowing how to use the command line.

For me, the mouse is usually employed in selecting the various xterms on
my desktop, but I do enjoy using the Evolution MUA when I have to work
with an Exchange MTA rather than using Outhouse^H^H^H^H^Hlook.  This
does nothing to change my opinion of Exchange:
