Nova has more than one meaning in Spanish.  The capital city of the
island of Mallorca, Spain is Palma. The city built later just to the
west of Palma is called Palma Nova, meaning "New Palma."  I'm not saying
it was a long time ago that I frequented Mallorca, but I was a COBOL
hacker then.
