Hi vern, thanks.
I suspected those two problems were related as far as the browser is
concerned but ya know the confusing thing is that help works for firefox
for some things but when it needs the net it ask to connect. Help simply
does not work from inside Gnome nor a terminal and I always get that
specific message so it is surely interface problem.
I really think that you are right in that connecting the win-modem
failed and i am trying to decipher the results of a Diagonistics proggy
I DLed and ran, whew it tells you how the universe began I think. . It
produced 14 text files and informed me that Fedora does not yet support
installation of the win-mod.
I have been trying to solve the off line help first to try to learn how
this all hooks together, just thinking about it heats up the circuit
breakers, it has to be the most complicated do-widget ever assembled ...
all to ship virtual 1s and 0s to who knows where. But I am into it man,
i am 76 and saw where I could buy my own Island in virtual land and sell
imaginary pictures for those imaginary houses I leapt right into the
spirit of it all. I mean cut me in.
So since I retired to my dream of few acres woods with a stream I do not
have dsl or cable available and Sat will not work with the time delay.
I intend to place a server at a frins house who has dsl and get a dsl
line there with extension line out to me, tie the Apache server in DSL
there and shuffle the stuff back and forth to my work studio.
LOL does anyone know if this will even work, never mind I gonna try it
anyway just cause i can... but now ya see why I finally yelled NO FEAR
and got on line sending my imaginary money that materializes in my bank
every now and then off to this company with a web addy and damned if
those cds did not materialize right there at the USPS in town. I have
vowed that I am going to get Linux working this winter every yr for 10
now. This is the year.
Anyway I intend to have fun and i will share it with yawl as I muddle
along. I am trying to follow this Lin-modem thang and it does say that I
can get the Lucent one to work. I have read it over several times and
this weekend hope to get the modem going but i do have an older 3com PCI
unit that is not a win-Mod so I may just stick that in and see if
rebooting will install it and if that solves the Help within Fedora
offline, I think it just might.
Thanks for this trip guys, real cool
