I hate to say this as it is not very professional...
Since I have no idea what your hardware is, trouble shooting can be very
tricky. From the errors you reported in the earlier post it looks like
your monitor is not being recognized. I think the easiest thing to do
would be to boot up a live cd and compare that xorg file with the one
you have in FC. Try the live ubuntu cd.
<http://ubuntu-releases.cs.umn.edu//6.06/ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.iso>
Don't worry it won't mess with your hard drive and runs in the ram.
Once it boots up make your way to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Copy it, write it
down, save it to cd-r or what ever. Compare it to the one that FC
generated. It might have some extra info about your monitor, or other
stuff.
Since you are using that old rage3d card the "ati" driver will be fine
in xorg. No need to try and compile drivers from ati.com. You can get
dri with the open source ati xorg driver we just have to figure out what
is preventing it from enabling automatically...
This is the best way I can think to explain to you without confusing the
heck out of you. ;-)
And if you will, send me the /var/log/xorg.log files from FC and any
other distribution you might try.
Sam
