Looks like support is lacking for this card do to some security issues.
I was poking around on google and found this ubuntu post:

easy to install the older drivers though...

On "pre-radeon" chipsets you can get dri with the open source ati
driver. I have dri running on my ati m6p. That is the card in between
the rage and the radeon. Looks like these older rage 3d's are being
pesky though....
