Matt, just an FYI, you can get quite good performance even from an old
nVidia card like a Geforce MX series.  I have an old Dell sitting in
the closet that I put Ubuntu on, it's got a 64mb nVidia card in it and
it runs Beryl, all the 3-d screensavers and things like Stellarium
really well.  A card like that can be had for less than $10 these
days.  Spend a little bit more and you can certainly play games like
Quake 3, run Google Earth, etc.
