It's not necessary to create things in the unallocated area. Delete any
unused partitions you've created during testing. Use GParted to resize the
"container" extended frame that surrounds the logical partitions to occupy
the unallocated space. That moves the empty space within the box so you
can then resize the last logical partition, or move it and resize the next
one in line.
Some file systems are harder to adjust than others. You should check the
documentation on [1]GParted to see what operations are supported, or click
the GParted menu (first entry on main window) and select Filesystems for a
quick reference. --Don
