[SATLUG] 'dd' command..and my hosed system..

I could of swore I used dd to remove grub before..

at any rate I have a laptop w/ WinXP on it and a
external USB drive with SuSE 10.2.. I wanted to remove
GRUB that way if I dont have the usb drive plugged in
I could go straight to windows.  (its for work, not
because I want to.)  At any rate I used dd to wipe out
the mbr.  Well that didnt do it so I just did a
fixmbr.. boots to windows fine but if I select to boot
from USB it doesnt boot into Linux..  If I boot from
SuSE 10.2 cd and force it to boot linux it works fine.

Whats the way to fix it?
