Frank,

LVM comes into its own when used with more than one disk.  You can
logically combine them into one disk and then assign it to a logical
volume.  You create logical volumes and use them as mount points for
your partition.

With only one disk, and no intentions of adding any more, I wouldn't
(and this is only me) use lvm at all.  I think that it would just do
to partition the disk and not worry about lvm.
