Howard:

You're probably best off just letting the operating system tools
decide for you what gets to be primary, extended and logical.  If you
want the maximum amount of flexibility for your partitioning scheme
you might want to spend a little time learning how to use LVM.  Then
you can create and resize your logical volumes (not physical disk
partitions) as you wish.
