[SATLUG] Configure problem

Hi All,
I am trying to compile a program from source, but in the configure step, I
get the following error.
checking build system type... Invalid configuration
`x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu': machine `x86_64-unknown' not recognized
configure: error: /bin/sh ./config.sub x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu failed
I have done some Googling and it seems that my system is too new for
configure and that it doesn't think the source can safely build. What can I
do to get past this error? I found someone else who said to replace the
config.sub and config.guess files, but what do I replace them with? Can I
simply edit those files and make it recognize my machine or can I perhaps
change something on my machine just long enough to get past this configure
step?
Thanks,
Mike
