I've got Beryl up and running on an Ubuntu Edgy box I threw together, and WOW what a cool thing they've made with Beryl! I am TOTALLY amazed at the way I can spin around my desktop, and move my "bouncy" windows around, all while watching a video file with a transparent terminal infront of it, etc! Very impressive stuff!!
At any rate, I'm also trying to enable Remote Desktop on the Ubuntu box. So, went around, looked to download VNC, looked to try this, try that, then found the "Remote Desktop" option in the Ubuntu menus. ha! :) It's so cool to see how far Linux for the desktop has come along in the last decade! Anyway, so, the Remote Desktop works GREAT, with one caveat: if Beryl is my window manager, it seems I can't control the desktop remotely, even with "allow the remote user to control my computer" turned on. If I switch the window manager back to Ubuntu's default "Metacity", then I *can* control the desktop.
Has anyone else fiddled around with Beryl enough to have any suggestions on what I might be able to do? If there was an easy way to have the window manager "change" when a remote login session is commenced (and change back when it ends), that would be fine I suppose. I'll look at it more later at home, but I figured this all out at the tail end of my lunch break so I didn't get to try a ton of stuff!
