I managed to get this working by using the nohotplug cheatcode at
boot. This distro is slax based, so you can use the same cheatcodes
listed on this page, replacing "slax" with "bt":

BackTrack is pretty slick - if you are at all interested in security,
vulnerability scanning or penetration testing it's a great distro to
carry around on a CD or USB stick.
