ahhh. OK, so you are already going down that track, sorry.  I suspect 
that it's probably bios/motherboard specific.   Have you tried googling 
with your motherboard revision and add to the search term "fastest cpu", 
or "fastest processor".  Also the manufacturers website will show 
compatible cpus for each motherboard (though sometimes they are a bit 
conservative).
