[SATLUG] Mysterious cron problem - SOLVED

I was able to fix my cron daemon problem.  Here's what I did in case
anyone else comes up against something similar.

The problem was that I had the following line in my
/etc/pam.d/common-session file:

session optional       pam_mount.so

I thought this was necessary to have pam_mount.so here to mount my
encrypted home partition but commenting it out didn't break anything,
and cron is working again.
