[SATLUG] (no subject)

i just installed linux on an my friends? old laptop...its a toshiba satellite, the problem i am facing its that the when it boots up you can hardly see anything n the screen once i logging it tells me that the monitor has to be configured manually.... my question is what would be the proper configuration.?thats the only message i get when i log in. any help or hints are appreciater it.
