Negroponte should have chosen someone else to do his marketing, PR,
and relationship building with the large tech vendors.  He has even
admitted himself that he's not good at selling laptops.  Engineers
often don't have the skills to forge these relationships and work out
compromises.  Alienating Intel, Apple and Microsoft was not a smart
thing to do, because they immediately turned around and started work
on their own low-end devices (Classmate PC, eeepc, etc).  Why would
anyone naively expect them to ignore a new, untapped market like this?
