[SATLUG] laptop HD data recovery

I have a laptop hd that needs data recovered off of
it.  I installed a 2.5" -> 3.5" adapter and installed
it in my external usb housing.. 

dmesg output (snipped):

sdc: Current: sense key: No Sense
    Additional sense: No additional sense information
sdc: Current: sense key: No Sense
    Additional sense: No additional sense information

Drive does not get mounted.. could this be a failure
of the hard drive?  Once I've replaced the mobo of a
drive to retrieve data but I'm wondering if this is a
defect of the media and not the board itself?
