 If you are printing to a cups server, lpd is not required. I misunderstood.
 Right now, I setup the lpd daemon on the cups servers and use LPRng spools
 from the various clients: Sample /etc/printcap:

    :sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P
    :lp=%P at mars.gx:

shipping:tc=.common
receiving-s:tc=.common
office:tc=.common
---------------------------------

Its dirt simple this way, and I don't have to deal with Cups-Cups interaction.
