Drupal and Plone are content management systems. Do they have
calendar and forum components? What other components are required to
get them to work?

Joomla! is another CMS, and I know that there are a lot of fiddly
little bits that have to be put together to make a working web site
that includes blogs, wikis, web forum discussion systems, mailing
lists, USENET newsgroups, etc....

Curtis W. Preston (author of the O'Reilly books "Backup and Recovery"
and "Using SANs and NAS") has the website backupcentral.com which he
runs and uses Joomla! plus components to integrate with Mailman, a
web forum system, MediaWiki, the blog component of Joomla!, etc....

Very cool stuff, but I have some idea of what it's taken for him to
get all this stuff put together, and it's definitely not trivial --
his component for integrating Mailman into the Joomla! environment
has been contributed back to the respective projects, and he's even
on his second version of the component so that you don't need to hook
into the back-end host-based scripting tools provided with Mailman.
