the one thing that "concerns" me when I'm running my
home server is security updates. I have tried other
distros briefly but only as a desktop OS not for a
server. I havent peered out of my SuSE cave too much
when it comes to running a different distro as a
server. Do all other distros have a similiar "update"
notifier like SuSE?
Speaking of security..here's a n00b question. If
you're out on the DMZ you can get port scanned on all
ports, if you're inside the DMZ and only allowing 80,
ssh (different port) and some other non-standard
ports, then those are the only ones that can be
scanned (even that would be a hit-n-miss if its a
non-standard port?). Meaning my router wouldnt just
forward port 1234 to all computers since I didnt tell
it specifically where to forward to? So basically the
only thing to worry about is application security bugs
(sql injection, php bugs etc) correct? Hope that
makes sense.
