I recently studied for RHCE using CentOS 5 running on VMWare Server. I
had multiple instances on several different machines and never once had
a problem with a single install.
Check your ISO and make sure it's not corrupt. If you're using a burned
disc, make sure you check the media at the start of the install. If
you're doing a network based install, then make sure you're network
source is working properly and you're initial network setup is good on
the VM.
The only issue I've had with CentOS 5 and install was on one server, I
had to use the good ol' noacpi and noapic kernel parameters. Since the
VM sees your processor directly, it may not like your core duo,
especially if you have the VM setup for two processors. That's a guess
though.
