To me, it is personal preference.  If you have a workstation that you 
will always read your email on, then use pop3.  It will download the 
messages from the server on to your workstation.  This is nice for the 
server because they don't have to keep your email on the server and chew 
up disk space.

I personally use IMAP because I read my email from different 
workstations.  I don't want part of my emails on several workstations 
all over town.  That is why I use IMAP.  Also, I have my own mail server 
running from home.  So, I am using up my own disk space and system 
resources.
