[SATLUG] Tool for monitoring available bandwidth

I should have explained myself more clearly - currently I don't have a
way to put a tap on the network behind the VPN gateway, so passive
monitoring of my laptop's network connection doesn't help much (Eg, it
only tells me what's coming in and out of my own computer).  I'm
looking for something that will do an active speed test at regular
intervals, perhaps by transferring a file, and log the results.  This
way I can at least get a ballpark idea of what the busy times are.

If there is no tool already set up for this I'll make a script.  Just
thought I'd ask if there was something else out there already made.
