Ssh + vnc might work. I set vnc server/ iptables to listen for localhost only.

$ssh user at mymachine.com -L 5900:127.0.0.1:5900

twistedpickles

x11vnc will let you vnc into a local X session, will that work for
you? Or do you want something that works more like X forwarding but
with gnu/screen like abilities? If so, I have no idea but would love
to know.
