Been using ' xfs ' on three of my Nix boxes for at least two years, no problems. 
Caveat: individual's  file parameters do have a bearing on file use (this has been
discussed in the archives in the past year).

Why not give ' Gparted ' a whirl for setting your partitions and files (xfs, ext2,
ext3, swap or whatever).  Then do the install again, telling it to use the applicable
previously set partitions.

Note depending on the version of Gparted, it may call your drives with the old (hdx
vs sdx), but no problem because when you go to installion Suse, they will show up
as ' sdx ' partitions.

NVNG: nothing ventured nothing gained.
