This is all OK.  I guess the router does provide a name server.

The issue is still how to get a connection to the router.  Until we can get

   iwlist scan

to show something, we can't go any further.  I don't know how to do that other 
than, as we discussed earlier:

As root:

#ifconfig wlan0 up  (you should have some lights if you didn't before)
#iwlist scan

You might also look at:

#dmesg | grep lan  and
#iwconfig

to see if there are any clues there.
