Actually, I've seen this quite a few times, on NT4, 2000 and XP systems, 
since M$ started pushing forced updates (pushing updates whether or not 
automatic updates are turned on) to always-on machines in April of last 
year.  Its one of the reasons I locked onto linux so hard...
