root at RCH-SERVER:/# mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sdb1
mdadm: re-added /dev/sdb1

You said to let the file system re-sync.  So, I checked with:

root at RCH-SERVER:/# mdadm -D /dev/md0

This is going to take a while, and I have to be at work, ready to climb telephone poles at 8 am, so I'm going to have to call it a night, but that does not mean that I do not appreciate what you've done for me/us throughout this entire ordeal.

I'll pick it up in the morning, check it again to make sure, send you an email with the update.  Then, I'll probably wait until tomorrow night to run "e2fsck -D -f /dev/md0" so that I'll have time to 'press "y" a hundred times'

I know I'm not yet out of the woods, but I DO have a smile on my face about this, for the first time in about 3 weeks.
